In densely populated urban areas of Delhi, a home is truly much, much more than a mere residence – it is a workplace, a study, and a sanctuary. For thousands of families living in these under-resourced communities, keeping a safe and functional home is a huge, tremendous challenge. Minor issues within the structure (such leaking roofs, or damp walls or an uneven floor) can evolve into major health and safety issues very rapidly.
The problem on this scale is so large that high costs and unreliable services present an extremely chronic barrier for residents, often leaving them trapped in deteriorated living situations. When a home is in disrepair, it affects everything from a child’s ability to focus on their education to the overall well-being of a family – how could we unsee this?.
The Housing and Hope Initiative (THHI) is a mission aimed at closing this gap. We work to reduce the financial and logistical obstacles for low-income families wanting to improve their homes. Through our access to affordable home improvements, we assist residents in converting their living environments into spaces that promote health, security, and hope for the future.
